Gynecology instruments

  • Speculum: A tool used to gently open the vaginal walls for examination of the cervix and vaginal walls. Speculums come in different sizes and shapes, including metal and plastic versions.

  • Bimanual Examination Instrument: Typically refers to the technique rather than a specific tool; it involves using two hands (one inside the vagina and one on the abdomen) to palpate the reproductive organs and assess their size and position.

  • Hysteroscope: A thin, flexible instrument with a camera used to view the inside of the uterus. It allows for diagnostic and surgical procedures within the uterine cavity.

  • Ultrasound Probe: Used to perform transvaginal or pelvic ultrasounds to visualize the internal reproductive organs and assess conditions like cysts, tumors, or pregnancies.

  • Vaginal Retractor: A tool used to hold the vaginal walls apart to improve visibility during examinations or surgeries.

  • Kerr Needle Holder: A surgical instrument used to hold needles while suturing or during other procedures.

  • Heaney Clamp: A clamp used for controlling bleeding during gynecological surgeries, especially in procedures involving the uterus and cervix.

  • Allis Tissue Forceps: Used for grasping and holding tissues during surgical procedures. They have interlocking teeth for a secure grip.

  • Kocher Forceps: Clamp-like instruments used to grasp and hold tissues, often during surgeries to stabilize or secure tissue.

  • Laparoscope: A thin, lighted tube used for laparoscopic surgery. It allows for minimally invasive examination and treatment of abdominal and pelvic organs through small incisions.

  • Endometrial Suction Curette: A device used to suction and remove endometrial tissue, often used during D&C procedures.

  • Foley Catheter: A catheter used to drain urine from the bladder, sometimes employed during gynecological surgeries.
